During the process of second language acquisition (SLA), the influenceof our native language cannot be neglected and, it is commonly agreed thatthe negative transfer of the first language (L1) can strongly interfere thesecond language learning. This thesis analyses Chinese EFL learners' errors atthe discourse level through data analysis. By examining the these errors, I tryto find that certain writing problems of Chinese EFL students originate fromnegative transfer of the first language at the discourse level. The researchhopes to provide some insights into the Chinese EFL learners' errors at leastin three areas: firstly, to tell teachers how the learners transfer their L1discourse and consequently, what needs them to learn;secondly, to showwhat errors students commonly commit and which type of error is the mostserious;and thirdly, to supply teachers with specific information on how totreat students' errors.
