The importance of learning strategy in foreign1anguage learning is drawing increasing attention nowadays. The early study of learning strategy mainly focused on the good learners'study. And it was commonly determined that good language learners use learning strategies more frequently and efficiently than those poor learners.Later some studies on learners'efficient language learning were made and some learning strategies training were conducted. And it is well acknowledged that using learning strategies appropriately and sufficiently may enable learners to become more efficient in learning a foreign language. These findings in the studies made by foreign scholars have been tested on some college students in China and the similar result has been found out. Most students who have been involved in those studies specialize in English. However, those learners who are in Higher Vocational Institutes call for more attention paid to their EFL learning strategy use. This thesis is based on an attentive study of organizing strategies of English learners among Chinese HVI students. It sets out to examine two hypotheses raised by the researcher. One is that organizing strategies could improve learners'performance on English efficiently, and the other is that males improve more than females through training of organizing strategies. The data and information are collected through questionnaire, observation and interview in Chongqing Vocational Institute of Engineering. And ninety students are involved in this training. It is found that organizing strategy use is, to some degree, significant to language learning and some learner factors, such as gender, may contribute to some strategy use differences. It is also suggested that learning strategy training can be an effective way to help students become more aware of their individual learning needs and become more confident and autonomous in their learning, which in turn will benefit them for their life time education.Delimitation of the study is showed in the last part of the thesis, and fields for further EFL learning strategies is suggested.
