Based on Greek education elite, the education of Ancient Rome developed and brought forth new ideas, and the Roman educational mode with its own characteristics which meet the needs of Roman country had come into being. It created far-reaching effect on educational development of ancient world and modern western world.Through exploring the situation of the development of Ancient Rome education from the Republic to the early Empire , the paper analyzes the interaction between social factors and education as well as the historical reasons which profounded these great changes, thereby it elucidates the characteristics of changed and developed education, which deepens the understanding of the social significances and historical functions of the education, makes us shoulder for the development of education, the promotion of social progress, the historical mission of promoting national prosperity more actively and consciously.Three parts are mentioned in the paper:Part one: The characteristics of home education in the early Republic: Typical Patriarchal Education. The paper analyzes paternity home education, aiming mainly on fostering farmer- soldier, and its unadorned educational content.Part two: Educational development of mid-Republic period: It covers the period from Roman traditional education to Greek education. After the Tarentum War, Greek education changed not only the content and form of Roman traditional education but also Roman educational concept. The education began to change from home to school.Part three: It analyzes the characteristics of education from the late Republic to the early Empire period: the further development and improvement of education. In the changing period of society, the education, which inherited, improved and also reformed traditional educational characteristics, provided valuable experience for the educational development of modern western world.At different eras, education revealed different features as social factors changed. In the Republic period, the remarkable characteristic of education was to realize Roman Ideal: it considered fostering excellent citizens and prominent orators as the educational aim, while in the early Empire, the aim changed to foster competent officials, professional talents and loyal submissive; the educational system, theory, contents and method developed and consummated; The status of teachers was improved because of the concern of the rulers.
