Contemporary war novels of China were divided into two parts. One part was 17-year war novels, which was mainly written by partakers of war. These novels were full of air of authenticity with emotional charge. And the other part was new-time war novels, young writers of which did not join battles. These young writers understood wars through rich historical materials, and they described wars from new artistic skill and from more objective view. Two generation writers were in different times which lead to different creating attitude, different historical view, different aesthetic angle of view and artistic idiosyncrasy. So with an eye on the war of contemporary historic age, there are completely different contents and experience of writers.Red Sun is the representative of the most outstanding achievement of 17-year war novels, and Red Broomcorn Family is the monumental work of new time war novels .Not only existed "red" in their titles, but also they described the different meanings about "red thought". The two works were completely different in narrative, characterization of hero, and historical view and so on. In this paper we found the characters of two generation war novels and the time restrict factors from many aspects contradistinction about the two works, and at last we gave the two works trait and valuation about their narratives.
