Maozhou town was one of the well-known business centers before modern age.It was an important node for commodities in the Mid-Hebei, North China and the southern provinces . Maozhou town market began to rise during the Wanli period in Ming Dynasty, and reached its peak during the Kangqian period in Qing Dynasty. With the modem age coming, the market experienced some changes because of some other social changes. It rose and fell several times, but compared with the period of Ming and Qing Dynasty it took on decline as a general tendency. The particular difference from any other market changes of the Mid-Hebei was that it rose with the beginning of the temple fair and fall with the cancelling of the temple fair. The temple fair played a key role in the changes of Maozhou market. The changes of the Maozhou town market ,the basic reason lay in the greatly changes of government policies towards the Maozhou temple fair during the late Qing and Republic of China.Other important reasons were the local poor transportation , the rising of the neighboring commercial towns and the high frequency of wars and chaoses .
