| Pacun Porcelain Kiln was one of important folk porcelain kilns in the Northern China during the Song Dynasty (960B.C.-1279B.C.) and Yuan Dynasty (1271 B.C.-1368B.C). Its products mainly were famous by the porcelain with black patterns on a white background. Because of various reasons, Pacun Porcelain Kiln had not been archaeologically excavated. In order to get a comprehensive understanding of the burning times and decoration patterns of porcelains in Pacun Porcelain Kiln, the author has been to Pacun Porcelain Kiln for on-the-spot investigations three times separately in August, 2004, November and May, 2005 and collected 364 pictures of specimens of Pacun Porcelain Kiln porcelains with black patterns on a white background.With the basic material of those specimen collections, this essay will divide Pacun Porcelain Kiln porcelains into three stages according to their productive time by using the archaeology typology analytic method. The three stages respectively is first stage of productive stage (last years of the Northern Song Dynasty), the second stage of prosperity stage (the Jin Dynasty), the third stage (the Yuan Dynasty).The decoration patterns of Pacun Porcelain Kiln porcelains include the main body pattern, the auspicious omen pattern and the character pattern. The "grass and leaves pattern" is not only, the main body pattern but also the typical pattern of Pacun Porcelain Kiln porcelains. On the basis of specimen collections of the grass and leaves pattern, this essay is going to discuss its original pattern "three leaves pattern", and analysis its heterogeneous pattern in different times.Since Pacun Porcelain Kiln was a folk porcelain kilns, the burning method and development of its porcelains absorbed the methods and decoration patterns of other kilns around, combined its own unique folk cultural decoration patterns, and finally formed the" Pacun Pattern". |
