Research On Graphic Thinking Of Designers

Using graphics to promote thinking is a necessary way to any design field which is related to visual design. Graphic thinking is an open mind design thinking mode, which suggests any solution to design problems through any possible graphics. As a kind of design thinking mode, graphic thinking has been developed widely in architecture design and product design. Designers use graphic thinking to find problems, and use graphic thinking to find solutions to problems also. The point of this research is to search for the features and rules when designers using graphic thinking.The thesis explains the definition, developing history and status of current research of graphic thinking. Then we try to find out some features and rules in graphic thinking by experimenting. The process of design thinking of a designer is a complicated course, so we can not look inside through common observation. This research processes well designed experiments to record the behaviors of designers, and then makes analysis to search for useful information. Because there are tow kinds of graphic thinking situations, short time graphic thinking and long time graphic thinking, the research processes tow different experiments accordingly. The research offers some useful guide information to novice through the compare between expert group and novice group. Finally, the thesis summarizes the features of graphic thinking and makes suggestions to novice.The result of the tow experiments is satisfying because of aboratiye plan and practice. The research finally finds some practical guild information to novice and to design teaching through experiments and analysis. Also, the exploration of experimental methodology is another significative try.
