Analysis On The Tend Of The Compounding Development Of Chinese Vocabulary And Chinese Characters

In the traditional point of view, the research of Chinese characters belongs to the theory of writing system and the research of Chinese vocabulary belongs to the theory of lexicology. It seems that there is no relationship between them. In common situation, the research on linguistics disdains to talk about characters and the research on characters is more and more restricted within form and structure. This separated viewpoint divides up the united national language and culture.When the research is put into the early Chinese characters and compounding words, and studies the consisting foundation, the expressing mode and the expressing effect, it can be found that these two things blend together in the development of Chinese language. They show that their forming mechanisms are quite similar. They co-constitute a very important part in the expressional chain of Chinese nation. Based on the relationship of Chinese culture, Chinese language and Chinese characters, this dissertation seeks the characteristics of Chinese language and characters. This is a very important issue in Chinese cultural linguistics.This dissertation, based on the guidance of the combining viewpoint, delineates the compounding direction in the development of Chinese language and Chinese characters, and shows the similar forming mechanism in them. This mechanism is the way that from the known to the unknown. The reason why this similar forming mechanism is produced in the development of Chinese is not simply because of theChinese characters' forming rule or the Chinese words' forming rule. Through the research on the two-alliterated words, this essay finds out the reason, that is the two things both interplay and complement with each other. The research above delineates the inner structure of Chinese. In order to give a better explanation to this special similar forming mechanism in Chinese, this dissertation regards English derivative words and compounding words as a contrast. In the contrastive research, this essay finds that the resembling compounding direction also exists in the English development. But that direction in English is more because of the collision between different language systems. It is also because of the work done by the rule in language itself. This contrast effectively proves that the research on Chinese should be done under the relationship between Chinese language and Chinese characters.This dissertation consists of the following four parts:Part one: Introduction. This essay retrospects the different theories in the research on Chinese word-formation and character-formation such as separated viewpoint, reflected viewpoint and combining viewpoint and the actual research state of this issue. It also points out the elemental theory standpoint of this dissertation.Part two: This dissertation studies the compounding direction in the development of Chinese language and Chinese characters from the clue of time development, then research the isomorphic forming mechanism from the qualities and reasons in the compounding direction. Regarding the two-alliterated words as a mirror this dissertation can see clearly the interplay and complement of Chinese language and Chinese characters in the compounding development.Part three: The contrastive analysis with English derivative words and compounding words. First this dissertation discusses the syllable forming criterion and the word-forming criterion in the precondition of contrast, and then fixes on the contrastive criterion, that is the latter. Secondly, this dissertation discusses the reason why the derivative words are brought into the contrastive item. Last this essay makes contrastive analysis on the producing reasons of derivative words and compounding words, the characteristics of them, the forming mechanism and the written language's characteristics, and finds that because of the difference in writing system, Englishpresents the syntactic and self-expressional characteristics which is different from Chinese. The reason of compounding development in English is not only because of the development of meaning system in vocabulary, but also because of the requirement of syntax, the foreign language influence and the fusion of different language systems.Part four: Conclusion.
