A person is the most basic factor in the process of social modernization drive. Contemporarily, the problem of personality modernization has already become one of attracting subjects of our time in social development theory. Therefore, research on personality modernization is of important practical significance and theoretical values. On the realistic aspect, the research on personality modernization is the response to the realistic problems relevant to personality emerged in the transformation period of world's and Chinese societies. Meanwhile, it makes a contribution to national people's rising to modern personality subjects meeting the needs of economic globalization, the development of science and technology, and socialist market economy. On the theoretical aspect, the meaning of the research on personality modernization lies in not merely displaying the problem of paying little attention to people in traditional theory, but also signifying the deep transition of the normal formof philosophy, using Marx's practical philosophy-proceeding frompeople's practical activity-to understand people and the world.Guided by Marxist practical materialism, this subject research, under the prerequisite of dialectically comprehending "the social being determines the social consciousness ", the basic principle of Marxist historical materialism, makes a textual research on the active counteraction of personality as social consciousness, aiming at illuminating the great meaning toward social progress and people's own development of personality modernization comprehensively and theoretically, and leading people to show proper concern over myriad phenomena of anti-humanity,such as ignorance, belittlement and defiance etc. of people in realistic society.
