The traditional Chinese painting and Chinese opera are the distinctive national arts formed in the isolated cultural system over thousands of years in China. Both are the product of historical accumulation in Chinese traditional culture. Due to the common national identity, both share some traits in an implicit manner in terms of cultural spirit, conception of artistic creation and aesthetic quality. There exist natural connections in the dimensions of philosophy and aesthetics in particular.Based on the study concept of "the aesthetic generalities of national arts" and the employment of research methods like comprehensive analysis and comparison as well as analogy, this thesis is intended to explore some common artistic Characteristics and their corresponding intrinsic reasons between Chinese painting and Chinese opera from the perspectives of traditional philosophy, aesthetics and artistics in an attempt to probe into their respective inherent laws and the vitality of artistic forms determined by them. The authors hopes that the study can enrich the current research regarding traditional arts and assist in gaining a deeper insight into the artistic nature of both art forms to some extent so as to make some contributions to the enriching of aesthetic creation and the construction of spiritual civilization in the new era.
