This paper, with esthetical method, inspects ups and downs of Du Fu in various stages of the Tang Dynasty, and stands in the concrete historical scene to explain it.The first part is about the acceptance of Du Fu in the High T'ang This part, based on others' appraisal and Du Fu's own poetic prose, analyzes from two respects. One is pointing out that Du Fu had already come into prominence and obtained certain reputation in the age in which he lived. The other further explains that Du Fu was not world-renowned at that time and influence was limited, because of his relatively senior generation, the differences between his works and the prevailing customs of his time, the wholesale destruction in society, politics and culture caused by An-shi Rebellion, etc.The second part is about the acceptance of Du Fu in the Mid - Tang Dynasty. This part is enunciated from the high praise of two major poetic genres of Yuan-Bai and Han-Meng on Du Fu, and Du Fu's influence in their practical creation. In view of the above, the following conclusion can be drawn: Du Fu had been pushed into a lofty position in the poetry circles in the Mid - Tang Dynasty, and become the origin at thought and art of all literary moguls. Then this part moves on to the main reasons ofDu Fu's lofty in the Mid - Tang Dynasty. It is because at that time political and military situation was getting better, Confucianism reborn and the former generation provided adverse experiences. The third part is about the acceptance of Du Fu in late Tang Dynasty. This part, using Du Mu, Li Shangying and " Pi-Lu" as representatives, combs their appraisal on Du Fu, closely analyses the inherence and development of Du Fu in their creating practice, then proceeding from the historieal point, regards the social deterioration of that time as the main reason that people of late Tang Dynasty raised Du Fu.This thesis also proves that it is improper to say "no nose, no ear", from the angle of Tang copy. In the end, this paper sums up the acceptation of Du Fu in Tang Dynasty, and points out that such categories as "mingling the styles of ancient and modern, then unique and specific", "the history written in poem", "good and bad of Du-Li" etc, enforce enormous influence on the study of Du Fu's poems of later generations.
