A Study On Hu Hong's Historical Philosophy

Hu Hong is a prestigious Neo-Confucianist in the early South Song Dynasty.Combining "Yi-Cheng-Lun-Xing"proposed by Zhou Dunyi, "Yi-Qi-Lun-Xing"by Zhang Zai and "Yi-Xin-Zhu-Xing"by Ceng Hao,he creates its "Xing"ontology with "Yi-Dao-Lun-Xing", "Xing-Qi-He-Yi"as its core.This philosophy is recognised apart from "Li"ontology proposed by Cheng Yi and Zhu Xi and "Xin"ontology by Lu Xiangshan and Wang Yangmig,as a third trend in the development of Neo-Confucianism in Song and Ming Dynasties. The article is aimed to make new interpretations on Hu Hong's philosophy based on the study of Hu Hong's Historical Philosophy.It is the author's view that the whole philosophy of Hu Hong is a historical philosophy with the historical and cultural world created by human spirit in the process of history as its subject.The reason is that "Xing-Ti"(Xing as its noumena),the logical starting and ending of the theory,is historical reality that changes in the process of time.Ti,therfore ,can be named as a philosophy of historicity. It is Hu Hong's view that "Xing"is orgin and existence of universe (including human historical world),and is the trancedental and internal origin of the universe,i.e.the spreading and changing of "Xing"create all the things in the universe.Owing that the realization of "Xing"must be embodied by "Xin",the human human's creative activities in the process of time.Hence,"Xing"is historical,i.e. "historicity"is the way origin existence for the spreading and changing of "Xing".The universe with "Xing"as its noumena is a historical infinite process. Furthermore, the historicity of the universe cannot be embodied without creative activities of "Xin", human spirits."Xin"creates historical culture.The way of origin and existence for the spreading and changing of "Xing"is displayed by the human history in the historical process of cultural creation and inheritage.Therefore, the nature of history is a hitorical process that the human being depends on Xin to convert Tian-Dao to Ren-Dao,and use Ren-Dao to command Tian-Dao,then to build the humanistic world. The article also incorporates the historical philosophy of Hu-Hong into the historical formation of Neo-Confucianism of Song and Ming Dynasties.The author's concludes that "Xing"Ontology plays a role of inheriting the past and ushering in the future in the development of Neo-Confucianism of Song and Ming Dynasties,i.e.inherit the philosophy of Zhou Dunyi,Zhang Zai,ChengHao and Cheng Yi (maily Cheng Hao),and usher in those of Zhu Xi and Wang Chuanshan.
