Discussion about the relations between Zhou Zuoren and Japanese culture is a hotspot for the research of the exchanges of contemporary literature between China and Japan. To choose a more effective researching method and perspective is very important to the analyzing and researching work of the Japannish sentiment and interest displayed in Zhou's essays. Centering Japannish sentiment and interests, this paper considers and analyzes the characteristics of Zhou's essay in the following four aspects:First, this paper collects Zhou's essay that involve Japanese elements and divides them into four categories— literature and Arts, folk-custom life, political intercourse and literary translation, tries to depict a comparatively comprehensive and clear picture of Japan in Zhou's works.Second, this paper elaborates Zhou's choices, absorption, and transformation of the leisurely and carefree mood, lenitive emotion and sarcastic humor in Japannish sentiment, thus, induces his valuation and self-emphasized spirits.Third, this paper analyzes Zhou's view of Japannish sentiment and interests and points out that it is based on civilian sentiments and dominated by aristocratic spirits, and achieves the unison of the two in both theory and practice.Fourth, further discusses the positive and negative effects of Japannish sentiment on Zhou's essays.The writer hopes the research on the above four aspects can be helpful to the researching work of the relations between Zhou and Japanese culture.
