The dissertation consists of four parts. The first part is a summary of different comments on Talented Men and Beautiful Women novels. It can be divided into two stages roughly: Before 20th century, there were two kinds of tendencies. One came from the similar writers of fiction who mostly approved the Talented Men and Beautiful Women novels'progressive ideology but were dissatisfied with their unskilled art; and the other came from society's critic that objected to the novels'ideology because it was different from their feudal marriage idea. Since 20th century, the Talented Men and Beautiful Women novels have received more and more attention as people have gradually realized the unique value of the novels and begin to research them with a new eye. Therefore, many results have been yielded. However, some comments on the feminine image and the writers'mentality are not profound and comprehensive. Part two analyzes the Beautiful Woman image on the characteristics different from those of the traditional feminine image such as the talent, the appearance, the love and the ethics of them. The writers showed us their progressive view of female by praising the Beautiful Women's good-looking and remarkable talent honestly. Most of all, their approval of the Beautiful Women's marriage established on love was a bold denial of the feudal marriage system. But all of this did not mean that the writers really rebelled against feudalism because the Beautiful Women still obeyed the feudal morals. Part three explores the writers'male power center consciousness reflected by the Beautiful Woman image. In order to relieve their beauty complex the male creators described the Beautiful women's beauty patiently. They sought spirit consolation by fabricating female intimate friends when they were frustrated by fact, which suggests that the Beautiful Women's talent was only a criterion of the male's value. On the other hand, they not only agreed with the Beautiful Women about their love but also demanded them to obey the feudal ethics strictly. Because of their subconscious addiction to more beauties the writers attached very great important to the value of not jealous. In a word, the writers only praised those characteristics of the Beautiful Women that could satisfy their demands. So we... |
