There are three usages of "Gei" (给) in Chinese: one as verb, we called it "Gei1" (给1 , ); the other as preposition ,we called it "Gei2" (给2 ). However, in contemporary spoken Chinese, "Gei" (给) also appears immediately in front of the verb in "Ba"(把) sentences or passive sentences with high frequency. But there is no agreement on its nature about this usage in academic fields. The most scholars viewed the third usage of "Gei" (给 ) as auxiliary ,we called it " Gei3 "(给 3).These three "Gei"( 给 )are not belong to the same history levels though they appear in contemporary Chinese at the same time .They belong to the different stages in history .Firstlly ,the thesis researched the processtion of the grammaticalization of " Gei"(给) from " Gei," (给1) to " Gei3" (给3). Secondly ,The author holds the view that the third usage of "Gei" (给) has no syntactic and semantic value. Its value lies only in the pragmatics functioning as a focus mark. The chapter discusses two points: why "Gei" (给) is a focus mark and the degree of its mark compared with other devices of focus mark.
