Abstract/Summary:
As the most authoritative and influential comprehensive art exhibition, the National Art Exhibition not only reflects the latest development and the highest level of Chinese art but also exhibits the latest trend of the development of various art categories in China. Concerning the watercolor paintings of the Tenth National Art Exhibition, the Art has given a totally positive appraisal, while the author of this article can't agree with the positive appraisal completely. On the contrary, the author considers that for the appreciation quality of Chinese watercolor, we are gradually losing our own character. Concerning the problem existing in the Tenth National Art Exhibition, there are three views which the author would like to propose: First, the most critical problem of present watercolor is its lack of intension, the low grade of culture and the separation from the reality and epoch. Second, the seek for the so-called exhibition effect and the lack of spirit and vitality of the traditional portray of watercolor has reduced the art expression of the paintings. In addition, the painters should improve their modeling ability and the ability to use the language of watercolor to finish their works.
