Along with the strikingly rapid advancement in science, more andmore attention starts to be paid to the interdisciplinary studies. As a branchof psychology, vocal musical psychology is the output of the combinationof psychology and the art of vocal music. The study of vocal musicalpsychology arranges from the singers' feelings, consciousness, concern,memory to their intellect, imagination, emotion and will, etc. Memory isthe foundation of all the activities and among the important psychologicalqualities of human beings. As a basic psychological process, it plays a keyrole in securing our daily life and study. Moreover, the study of vocal musicdepends closely on memorizing without which it could not proceedsmoothly. Apart from the introduction and conclusion, this paper isconstituted of three parts and will do the systematic analysis andexploration of the roles memory plays in the study of vocal music from thepsychological perspective. Part Ⅰ: Memory is the base of all the psychology process. Memory isthe wings of the singers' imagination. Memory propels the intellectualactivity in singing. Without memory, imagination becomes rootless andlifeless and could not work well in the singers' study and performance ofvocal music. Intellectual activities cannot be carried out in the absence ofthe memorizing of the rules and connections. Part Ⅱ: The function of internalized memory in the training ofsinging skills. A proportion of human's skills and competence areinternalized. Though they function overtly, they could not be demonstratedor freely abstracted by human beings. The acquirement of singing skills,the same as any other specialty, is a transformation from a consciousactivity to an unconscious one. Part Ⅲ : The training and strengthening of the memorizingCompetence for singing. The main process of memorizing in singing ismemorizing—remaining—rememorizing —representing, with each stage having its specific rules.Only through the mastering of the rules and correct ways of memorizing,can the vocal music learners better enhance the competence formemorizing in singing.
