A Study Of Traditional Chinese Opera In Queli

Queli(Qufu) is the birthplace of Confucius and the origin place of Confucianism culture. In traditional literator opera, there are many dramatists with great attainments and opera works rich in quantity besides Kong Shang-ren and his The Peach Blossom Fan. The unique regional environment and specific era atmosphere enable these different works take on unanimous tendency in the deep layer of culture, having formed the distinctive local characteristics. The article illustrates this only in terms of fame and gain, going into the world or out of world. In addition, in view of the majority of Queli operas, the authors' lives, works editions, stories contents and courses of creating are not fully described by the former and present scolars, so it is very necessary to do that and quote those information into the text. But too many data might flood comments and make the text disorder, so it's better to indicate one by one in the explanatory note.This article consists of five parts:First, introduction.Second, on the environment of Queli opera. The extant Queli opera works were all written in Qing Dynasty. On one hand, operas were charged with pornography and banditry by the rulers who therefore inhibited and destroyed them to fool the people. On the other hand, the rulers chose operas to amuse themselves and the playactings were extremely extravagant. To resist the decrees of the imperial court and the tradetional idea disdaining operas, some opera writers and critics in Qing Dynasty maintained operas' right and affirmed that opera was an organic part of the article from two respects: origin and functions.
