| Yan Tie Lun is a representative of political essay in the medium period and later period of the Western Dynasty. It was written on the basis of the summary of the Salt Iron Meeting by Huan Kuan who is a prefecture magistrate's assistant during the Emperor Xuan's time of Han dynasty. This thesis consists of three:Part one surveys the Salt Iron Meeting, introduces both side in the meeting: Huo Guang, Xian Liang Wen Xue who are Huo Guang's spokesmen and Sang Hongyang who is Huo Guang's political adversary. This part deduces the time of Yan Tie Lun being finished and introduces its writer, whose creative purpose is to attack reality on a Shi Ji model.Part two analyses the main thoughts of Yan Tie Lun. This part explains at some length the thoughts of righteousness and benefit, farming and trade, law, war in Yan Tie Lun, analyses the thoughts of Sang Hongyang who belongs to Confucianism. The Salt Iron Meeting marks the new phase of development about Confucianism that have entered into political realm from ideological realm.Part three summarizes the literary value of Yan Tie Lun. This part expounds the theory of literature and art. To literature and art Sang Hongyang maintains the simple, the music that lays stress on the formality and combats the obsolescence, the excessive embellishment. He breaks the traditional theory of literature and art of Confucianism. "Yi" and "Lun" is a minutes of a meeting, Yan Tie Lun is a minutes of a meeting too. This part analyses the development of conversational formality and the style of literature of Yan Tie Lun. |
