| Most of Irish immigrants came to the United States in mid-late-19th century, we can say, the Irish immigrants who arrived in this period shaped Irish-American ethnic group today. The Paper probed into the process of arriving, settling, occupying, assimilating and acculturating of Irish immigrants. In this assimilation and acculturating process, Irish immigrants' characters contributed to the developing of American politic, economic, culture and society. And Irish immigrant in the Great Famine had his own exile psychosis, this decided Irish-American characters. In the process of conflict and assimilation to host society, Irish immigrants showed two styles: defending and following. Irish immigrants' political experience also influenced American ethnic politic. The first part is about the history background . The second part of the paper shows the confliction ,acculturation and assimilation between Irish immigrants and American mainstream society. Irish Immigrants' particular assimilation style was deeply influenced by their exodus notion. After generations, Irish immigrants finally became Irish Americans, left us a unique assimilation mode.
