Most of Irish immigrants came to the United States in mid-late-19th century, we can say, the Irish immigrants who arrived in this period shaped Irish-American ethnic group today. The Paper probed into the process of arriving, settling, occupying, assimilating and acculturating of Irish immigrants. In this assimilation and acculturating process, Irish immigrants' characters contributed to the developing of American politic, economic, culture and society. And Irish immigrant in the Great Famine had his own exile psychosis, this decided Irish-American characters. In the process of conflict and assimilation to host society, Irish immigrants showed two styles: defending and following.
