On The Interplay Of Subject And Object In Translation Variation-A Probe Into Translation Variation And Its Application To C-E Literary Translation

At present, Translation Studies (referred to as TS) has been addressed from more perspectives: the source text (ST) author, the ST, the translator, the target text (TT), the target reader (TR), and the norms of translation, each of which has been dealt with more thoroughly than ever. And achievements gained in the said areas have contributed a great deal to the development of TS. However, translation is above all an activity concerning all these areas, which are independent of, yet interplay with each other in the translating process, resulting in the end product-the TT. In the theory of translation variation, the interplay is reflected more obviously than in full translation. Therefore, the writer thinks that more attention should be paid not only to the single area, but also to their relations and their effects on each other. So in this paper, the writer will address the translation variation theory and its application by using two philosophical concepts - subject and object - with a view to seeing whether and how the theory works, especially in literary works translated from the original Chinese. Meanwhile, that will also be of help to an objective critique of translation.
