Study On "Meiyou VP Zhiqian"

"Meiyou VP Zhiqian" is formed by negative mark, verbal part and time mark. As early as 1960s, Chinese grammar circles paid a lot of attentions to the structure. At the beginning, the researchers focused their attentions on the negative mark and they reached some common understanding. Such as, the structure tallies with language habit, the negative mark is superfluous, and so on. But on how to treat the negative mark, they were divided in opinion. One side thought we should stand on the language facts and accept this habit; the opinion of the other side was just the opposite. After a long discussion, both sides accepted the fact of language and tried to reveal the exact meaning of the negative mark.At the present, the fields of views of the study on "Meiyou VP Zhiqian" are broadened, the methods are diversified. Every indication shows that our study shouldn't be confined only to the negative mark, but pays more attention to the whole structure. Only in doing so, we can carry forward our good traditions of study on the negative mark and go deeper into the study on the whole structure. Deep study will help revealing the exact meaning of the negative mark, the whole structure, and even the nature of the complementary distribution of "Meiyou VP Zhiqian" and "VP Zhiqian".We find in form, the surface parts which are put in front of the time marks of the two structures are antithetic of affirmation and negation; in content, these two structures fully show their complementary distributions with their process meaning and critical meaning. And the essence of the complementary distributions is the contradiction of one-way dimension of objective time and inverse subjective thought. Reflecting in form, the antithesis of affirmation and negation is based on the differences of one-dimension inverse thought and one-dimension normal thought. "Meiyou VP Zhiqian" shows time concept in an inverse direction; on the contrary, "VP Zhiqian" follows the directions of the flow of language and the development of affairs.For expressing the time concept and the process meaning, each part of the structure "Meiyou VP Zhiqian" is indispensable. The negative mark reveals process meaning; the verbal part concerns the centre of the structure; and the time mark ensures the identity of the concept. These three parts integrate closely and become one part finally.As an integral structure, the features of "Meiyou VP Zhiqian" can be only revealed by our studying and analyzing. It is a reduplicated form and can be analyzed as "Meiyou VP" and "VP Zhiqian". The former part shows the focus information ( process meaning ), and the latter implies the central information ( state meaning ). These two parts crisscross and transform with each other and form finally the unique time structure "Meiyou VP Zhiqian".
