Contemporary translation studies, which attach great importance to social and cultural restraints on translation, are now in the mist of "cultural turn". Since the 1970s, the Translation Studies in the West were provided by the Descriptive Schools, and the main impetus for the study of literature as a polysystem was posed by an Israeli scholar Even-Zohar. Based on this new approach, translation is no more regarded as emblematic sentences of source language transferred into target language, but rather as cultural universe. Polysystem Theory, an important branch in Translation Studies which approaches translation phenomena in a systemic, dynamic, descriptive, functional, target language-oriented way and contrasts sharply with the traditional Translation Studies. It broadens the horizon of Translation Studies and speeds up the "cultural turn" in Translation Studies. However, constant achievements on Translation Studies exposed the non-adequacy of polysystem theory in explaining literary translation from the perspectives of the cultural position of a nation and/or of translation literature in a given literary polysystem in relation to ideology, poetics and translator's subjectivity.The successor, Andre Lefevere both accepted and continued to develop the concept of literature as a system. He assumed that translation is a rewriting of an original text. All rewritings, whatever their intentions, reflect a certain cultural and thoughtful ideology discourse function in a given text; Rewriting can also repress innovation, distortion and containment. Ideology, Poetics and Patronage are the fundamental forces of manipulation in literary translation, of which ideology exercises more power and influence than the other two factors in the selection and construction of the repertoire of translated literature. In order to show that the ideological component limits literary discourse, Lefevere introduces the concept of the "refracted text," by which he means "texts that have been processed for a certainaudience, or adapted to a certain poetics or a certain ideology".Describing the course of modern Chinese poetry translation is an attempt to sort out the translation and introduction of world poetry at each stage of modern times, to give an outline of the development of poetry translation at the beginning of the 20th century, and to analyze its ideological and humanistic achievements so that the readers can have an integrated grasp of its historical deduction. This thesis, based on the explanation of Andre Lefevere's theory hypothesis about the constraints of ideology in the translation process, by focusing on the poetry translation in China from the 1920s to 1930s, explores the relationship between ideology and the translation literature. Moreover, the translated poems are canonized in the historical process of interaction of ideology, poetics and patronage, by making analyses of the cultural aims of ideological manipulation, so as to reveal the cultural property and significance of translation literature in the target culture.
