A Study Of Business Ethics And Environment Issue

With the industrialization and fast development of economy in China, environment deterioration and resource abuse have caught wide attention from the government and society. More and more people start to care about the environment problems, e.g., soil erosion, vegetation degeneration, water resource depletion and pollution, energy crisis, health problem, etc. Astounding cases of environment deterioration are frequently exposed. For example, during the development of cashmere industry in Inner Mongolia, the neglect of grassland protection has led to further degeneration and serious desertification, and thus incurs a series of economic, social, and environmental problems.With the help of the basic theories of business ethics, i.e., utilitarianism, rights, and justice, this paper analyzes the development and consequences of environment issue, and its meaning from the perspective of business ethics. Moreover, with the example of the cashmere industry in Inner Mongolia, the paper makes detailed analysis of the relationship of economy, society, and environment.Through the analysis, the paper examines the relationship of supplementing each other between environment and economy. The paper holds that during the economic construction in China, the environment factor should be given full consideration. Nevertheless, through the implementation of sustainable development strategy and the overall development of economy, society, and environment, it paves the way to the solution of environment problems by instilling people's environment awareness.Finally, the paper tries to sum up some solutions to harmonize the relationship between environment and economy. They are market mechanism and government intervention, and enterprise responsibility.The research in business ethics has just been started in China in recent years, and has been deepening due to the increasing attention from society. This topic is an entirely new field of study for the author, and he welcomes suggestions from experts of all circles to help him deepen his study.
