Women's School Education In Jiang Su Province During The Late Of Qing Dynasty And The Early Republican Period

The thesis mainly expatiates on the appearance, the general situations and the forming reasons of Jiang Su women's school education during the late Qing Dynasty and the Early Republican Period. Then t he author further discusses the characteristics of Jiang Su women's school and the influences it had during its development on the society .By this, the author tries to reappear the evolving tracks and general situations of women's education in modern China.The late Qing Dynasty and the Early Republican is an important development period of Jiang Su women's school education. The author shows the developing level of women's school education in the paper. Furthermore this paper analyzes detailedly why it could rise in Jiang Su province ahead of others and make remarkable achievements under that social circustances. Also this paper points out there are two external reasons: the historical opportunities offered by its sharp social reformation, the stimulation from the women's school run by the church. What's more important is the internal factors, such as the economic situation, the cultural atmosphere and the political situation of Jiang Su province itself. Besides the self-awareness of the intellectual women at that time is also an important factor.This paper sums up the characteristics of women's school education in Jiang Su province and points out that Jiang Su province may be called the forerunner of school education. It established women's specialized school and carried out professional education. The women's school also reformed in the aspect of education actively and went forward in teaching methods, application of teaching contents and the formation of teaching theories. To a great degree it influenced the development of Chinese women's schools. And it formed an integrated education system earlier in Jiang Su province during the late Qing Dynasty and the Early Republican Period. Meanwhile the imbalance of growth existed in different regions and school types because of the limitation in the economic situation, the cultural atmosphere and the political situation of Jiang Su province.The development of Modern Jiang Su women education had a great influence on women, making some women accept new ideas, thus forming new conceptions. Education improved women's quality, promoted the transform of women's social role, and lashed the opinions of traditional women, so it caused a chain of social reactions. The development of women's education pushed forward women's liberation movement, and the educated women played a prominent role, for knowledge offered them high ability of involving in the social life. And the situation of men ruling the world began to change. At the same time women's education pushed forward the civilization's progress.The paper maintains that the achievements of Jiang Su women's school have made during its development and its contributions to the society have been prominent, and it has played an important role in the civilization's progress; nevertheless, we can not deny that: due to the restriction of objective factors, such as epoch and circumstances, the development of Jiang Su women's school at that time was still very limited. The so-called "brilliance" was under that kind of social circumstances. From the aspect of today's condition, Jiang Su women's school was not only at a low level but also existed some obvious shortcomings.
