The relationship between thought and language is an everlasting topic in the fieldof linguistics especially in the field of psycholinguistics. Many famous linguists andscholars research into the relationship between thought and language, includingHerder. Humboldt, Trendelenbury .Sapir, Whorf, Gui Shichun. Lian Shuneng andBao Huinan. Starting from Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis, this article refutes its extremeviewpoint, and puts forward the right relationship between language and thought fromthe perspective of cognitive linguistics and translation. The right relationship betweenlanguage and thought should be that they are independent but interactive. While, thisarticle attaches great importance on the fact that thought influences language, especiallyChinese and Occidental thought influence Chinese and Occidental languages.
