According to Modern Chinese Dictionary published by Commerce Press, the so-called nihilism is a kind of thought that denies historical cultural heritage, national culture, and even the whole things in the world. But under different circumstances and during particular historical period, people will have different explanation about nihilism. In his novel Fathers And Children, Turgenev described the conflict between two generations, fathers and sons, which took place before Russian helot liberation. And in the novel he succeeded in figuring a young nihilist, Bazarov, who was an intellectual from the bottom of Russian society in the 1860s. The paper objectively and detailedly analyzes the tragedy conflict between two generations in Fathers And Children as well as the main character Bazarov. It is revealed that Turgenev got the nihilist thought throughout the novel. However, as a kind of social though in the 1860s, nihilism was affirmatively of certain progress. It vibrated the shade society at that time and shook the reformation of helotism. Besides it made the old power feel panic. Thus, it was opposed by aristocratic latitudinarianism and gradual reformation. At the same time, nihilism itself was weak and it had much restriction. It seemed blind and aimless before the old power, and it did not know how to deal with the aristocratic latitudinarianism and the staunch helotism. It had little idea about the comparison between the force of the peer and its own. It didn't try to make use of its advantage to make an alliance. Therefore, it sometimes hurt those innocent adherents. It was because of these subjective and objective reasons that it consequentially retreated from the history.
