Compared with his contemporary writers, Yu Tafu's works have a distinctively different characteristic: sentimental and straightforward, with the features of Sentimentalism, aestheticism and naturalism. As a controversial writer, although Yu Tafu's personality surely had influenced his writings, Yu Tafu was also influenced by foreign literature and writers. And the influences from British literature played an important role in Yu Tafu' writings. With Yu Tafu's critics and comments on British literary works and writers, and other critics' comments on Yu Tafu's works, this essay explored the influence of British literature on Yu Tafu from four aspects: Yu Tafu and the Sentimentalism in British literature, Yu Tafu and "the yellow book" writers, Yu Tafu and Oscar Wilde, Yu Tafu andD.H. Lawrence .Chapter one tells Yu Tafu's opinions about Sentimentalism, Samuel Richardson Laurence Sterne's influence on Yu Tafu, and the reasons for Yu Tafu's acceptance of British Sentimentalism. Chapter Two states "the Yellow Book" writers' influence on Yu Tafu. Chapter Three states the influence on Yu Tafu from Oscar Wilde's personality and Wilde's opinions about literature. Chapter Four states the common points and differences between Yu Tafu's and Lawrence's works on sex and love.
