Garden, in Chinese classical novels and dramas, presents unique literary and aesthetic values. Few scholars pay close attention to them yet. Even if it is discussed occasionally, what they emphasize are merely the values on landscape architecture. Therefore, this paper, on the basis of a large number of versions, analyzes the gardens of novels and dramas in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, reveals its unique literary and aesthetic values, probes into how gardens culture impact the novelists and dramatists, seeks the deep track of gardens culture in these works. The paper combines literature and landscape architecture, in addition, drawing lessons from aesthetics and psychology.The paper composes of three parts: foreword, text and epilogue.The foreword puts forward the reason of the topic and the visual angel of the demonstration.The text, according to the logic sequence, examines the gardens of novels and dramas in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. It includes three parts:Part 1: Symbols of gardenThis part induces four types stories relating to garden in novels and dramas: "love story" "spirit story" "religion story" and "traveling story", and then explores five symbols of garden: "love dreamland" "spirits haunt" "freedom world" "mirror reflecting wealth and position" and "life circle" .Part 2: Status and effects of garden in narrativeAnalyzing the works of Wei to Qing Dynasty, inquiring into the frequency of garden been taken as background of stories, the relations between garden and figures or plots, also, the part in stories, this part draws the conclusion that the status of garden becomes higher and higher, the relations, closer and closer, and the effects, greater and greater.Part 3: Why garden becomes the typical background especially in love stories Discussing scholar's deep feelings to garden and their habits of taking garden as Utopia, also, their visits in gardens, this part exposes why garden becomes the typical background. Then, by arguing the close relation between nature and love, nation's characteristics and the association of young scholars and beauties in those days, this part exposes why garden becomes the typical background of love stories.The epilogue sums up the purport of this paper and unfolds the literature-culture value of garden.
