Research On Cultural Imperialism Theory

Cultural imperialism theory is the main part of the postcolonial criticism. It has a specific history background for its production and development. So under the postcolonialism' s history background, this paper reveals the problems from the view of cultural philosophy and cultural studies angles; taking the Marxism philosophy as the guiding ideology; applying the research method of combining the macro-research with the micro-research, and history with logic; using the scientific contest method along with the method of analyzing of the main representative personage of the cultural imperialism theory ( that also called hermeneutics). Through discriminating the main concepts from cultural imperialism, commercial imperialism, political imperialism, cultural hegemonism and cultural colonialism; this paper reveals the course of the production and the development of the cultural imperialism theory, as well as its main theoretical origin. Moreover, it takes Edward Said' Orientalism, cultural imperialism theory and John Tomlison' s cultural imperialism theory as the individual examples , summing up the features and many interior contradictory problems of the cultural imperialism theory, giving an objective evaluation to cultural imperialism theory.Through the research and the analysis of cultural imperialism theory, we can have a clear view of the nature of the cultural imperialism. That not only has an important realistic significance for us to strengthen the research of the cultural strategy, ensure the safe of the nation culture; but also is good to enhance the cultural and mortal construction, absorb the other cultures critically, make our belief and stand of the Marxism become firm, and provide us many active experiences and thinks to build the Chinese characteristic socialism.
