The Kushan Empire(贵霜帝国) was one of four biggest empires (China, Kushan, Persia/An xi and Rome) in the ancient world. In a general rule, people thought that Kushan Empire was established by Darouzhi(大月氏), a Chinese ancient minority after it migrated westward to central Asia.This thesis devotes a lot of space to discribing Darouzhi' migration to the west and the related problems of Kushan's establishment. The thesis made a new explanation on the reasons that ZhangQian envoyed to the Western Regions and the relationship between this event and the western immigration of Darouzhi. In author's opinion, the relationship between Kushan Empire and Han Dynasty should be considered in different periods that involving two elements--national relations and state relations.The Kushan Empire was set up in continuous conquest and territorial expansion. The charge of the borders and the replacement of thrones all reflected the country's ups and downs. Because of its good geographical location, the empire caught the very chance to develop its commerce and build irrigation works in order to make up for the inherent shortcoming of agriculture, which is worthy of studying today after dozens of centuries. However, the Kushan Empire declined gradually, which was due to interconflicts. The returned Kushanian was not only refuges and wanders but also envoys of cultural exchange.In the long river of relationship between Kushan Empire and Han Dynasty, peace and friendly exchange was mainstream, and the conflicts were branches. Act independently and defiantly, sent hostages each other were the competition of county's real power and struggling of diplomatic tactics. Nevertheless, it was the heart of cultural exchange between Kushan and Han Dynasty that Buddhism transmitted eastward all along. In the meantime, substance, culture and art exchange promoted frequently, which influenced each other deeply and significantly.The Kushan Empire created a magnificent ancient civilization that played an important role in the culture communication between the East and West. It is practical and referential to study the relationship between Kushan Empire and Han Dynasty for handle correctly the national relation and international relationships today.
