With underwater operation developing, much more attention has been paid to diver selection. The characteristic of diver performance ability was used to test the indices of psychological diathesis and to evaluate the work ability in order to lay a foundation of the study for diver selection.Using "Diver performance Ability Scale", "Combined Raven's Test", "Spatial Memory Span Test", "Selective Reaction Time Test" and "Flicker Fusion Frequency", 8 divers were tested and evaluated. The main results are as follows:1 "Diver performance Ability Scale" designed by ourselves has a high reliability and validity, which is useful to evaluate diver performance ability, but different evaluate values were found among valuators.2 Diver performance ability is composed of four factors: action skill, learning ability, will power and work responsibility.3 The overall evaluation of the divers was related to their internal characteristics, suggesting the importance of personal diathesis.4 The work responsibility was markedly related to memory span score, indicating that work attitude influences the attention work.5 Selective reaction time was decreased and flicker fusion frequency was increased, which provide substantial evidence of a change in cognitive performance after saturation exercise.Diver is a special crowd of people. Much work ability research remains to be further carried out. We need to establish criterion of general ability, special ability and motivation to form a diver-selection system finally.
