The Study Of The Sequels Of Red Chamber Dream

This thesis is intended to study the sequels of Red Chamber Dream and to make a comprehensive research of the quantity, type, version, author and contemporary research situation in order to find out the similarities among so many sequels. The focus of this thesis will be put on the type of sequels created according to the version of Red Chamber Dream compiled by Cheng Weiyuan as it is created earliest when a largest number of sequels are written and most typical. The authors of this type of sequels all expressed their opinions on the Red Chamber Dream written by Cao Xueqin. Each of them equals to one critical article, which forms the earliest collection of critical articles of Red Chamber Dream. Thus, in spite of the low artistic quality of this kind of sequels, old fashioned ideological content, absurd plot, stereotype of the characters, all of which affect the readability, it is still considered of greater historical value than of literature value and of great help to the later generations to study the Red Chamber Dream.
