This article focuses on the spiritual character of wang anyi's novels,of which the author thinks nihility and the struggle against nihility are the most fundermental. The direct cause of nihility is keeping on seeking and exploring, in order to show and recognise human being's self. The hurt from the Caltural Revolution and the hit of Market Economy are the exteral factors for nihility, while the conflict between the novelist's elite consciousness and the actual decendance of the elites' social status is the internal factor. In the novels nihility emerges as a strong suspect, which may go to extremes to fatalism. However, the novelist doesn't indugle in the nihility ,but struggles in three maysifirstly by returning to the valaues once suspected such as affection ideal etc,for both struggle and avoidance;secondly by constructing lonely heros of passer-by style, unable to dispel nihility, though solemn;thirdly by relying on the common strength helplessly, but practically alleviating the mood of nihility.
