Personal Memory In The Historical Narration

Chinese literature in the 20th century is controlled by the appeal of modernity, in which all the doubt and loneliness, pain and hesitation, surge and flying, and glory and dream appear interconnected with modernity. Some researcher has ever pointed out, "The criticism or perseverance from traditionalism, post-modernism and didacticism to modernity is based on historical narration of modernity. As far as I am concerned, historical narration of modernity, the "premise" here has already been settled into the collective memory of Chinese literature in the 20th century. On one hand, its configuration is the deconstruction of the past, which, in association with history, stresses a fragmentation and reformation. On the other hand, it is the construction of present and future new order, which embodies enlightenment of new knowledge and new discovery in spiritual aspect in the course of modernity. In general, it is the "fragmentation" and "enlightenment" that from different spiritual orientation present the collective memory in the historical narration of Chinese literature in the 20th century.However, our account of cultural thoughts of a time cannot substitute the real life feeling of an individual writer. Although the historical narration of modernity has been the law of the 20th century's one-hundred-year literature, the complicated scene of literature is far beyond our given scope. It is the heterogeneous fragments that can give a perspective of profound content from miscellany. In this meaning, the "personal memory" type of writing, which pays attention to individual spiritual situation and existential experience, deserves the concern of literature research. In my opinion, the type of writing can better manifest the strong literature appeal for the existing cultural value configuration and we can, in further research, seek for and find out the spiritual tendency pointing to the future.In virtue of the case analysis of three writers: Lu Xun, Shen Congwen and Wang Zengqi, and the research in three aspects: text, discourse and meaning, the thesis manages to find out the common element which they hold in their neumenon configuration of literature prospect and produce the effect of reference and instruction to present literature.The thesis finds out they examine the "new" and the "old" of "rural China" from another angle in the combat between emotion and reason. The historical narration of modernity proves that the "new" is always better than the "old" with the evolutional literature development view. However, most writers make sure that the "new" is better than the "old" in reason, but maybe not in emotion. Although reason wins over emotion in the end, it is their disharmony that produces literature. From Lu Xun to Wang Zengqi, they, based on literature neumenon, tell another kind of literature development view which is formed on the surface of the text from implicitly to explicitly. That is the "new" is not always better than the "old". New bottles with old wine are a commonplace.Corresponding to discourse, the two different literature development views aretwo different narration discourses. The writers, both in reason and in emotion, doubt the narration discourse of modernity which blindly pursues the "new". I will regard their narration discourse as literature neumenon discourse. It does not advocate revolt, but becomes a hidden opposing force when they stray from the main political flow of the time and turn to the nature and existence experience of human life. The opposing force arouses conflicts, even antagonism with the political opposing force in narration discourse of modernity, but they are not on the same surface.
