As a province of Zhongyuan type, Zhaoyi province has had significant effect on the historical development of provinces from the middle and late stage of Tang Dynasty Dynasty to Five Dynasties. Through the detailed analyses of Zhaoyi province, the author discusses Zhaoyi province's establishment and geographical environment, the subtle status of Zhaoyi province between central regime of Tang Dynasty and regional province, Zhaoyi province's connection with regime vicissitudes during the last stage of Tang Dynasty and early stage of Five Dynasties, analyzes the causes of Zhaoyi province's importance. We can study the important status of Zhongyuan type province from the middle and late stage of Tang Dynasty to Five Dynasties, and the influences which the factors of conflicts between Hu and Han ethics bring on Zhaoyi province and the history. The thesis is divided into the following four chaptersChapter 1 outlines the establishment and geographical environment of Zhaoyi province. The content includes the reasons for Zhaoyi province's establishment and its evolution, Zhaoyi province's location; introduction of Zhaoyi province's geographical environment. Zhaoyi province is located at the south part of Taihang Mountain. It is between the Hesuo and Tang Dynasty central regime at the late stage of Tang Dynasty, the forces of Bian and Jin at the early stage of Five Dynasties. Moreover, it is always geographically near the politic center, thus it has crucial strategic status.Chapter 2 expatiates Zhaoyi province's subtle status between central authorities of Tang Dynasty and regional provinces. Zhaoyi's checking against Heshuo. Zhaoyi has participated the war between central authorities and Heshuo six times from Dai-tsung to Wen-tsung, and contributed a lot to the maintenance of central regime of Tang Dynasty. Zhaoyi's rebel and its influence during Wu-tsung's time. Zhaoyi has become a powerful province during Wu-tsung's time and inclined to set up a separatist regime. Due to the issue of inherit right, it revoltes against court and is pacified in the end.Chapter 3 discusses connection with regime vicissitudes during the period of last stage of Tang Dynasty and early stage of Five Dynasties. Zhaoyi is located between the forces of Bian and Jin, as a result, it becomes the focus of contention of both sides. It has had great effect on the transition of strength, the subrogation of regimes of Bian and Jin in the early stage of Five Dynasties. Chapter 4 analyzes the reasons of Zhaoyi's importance. The unique geographical environment of Zhaoyi. It has unique natural geographical position and vital passes, which made it become a momentous strategic place from Tang Dynasty Dynasty to Five Dynasties. Military organization and training methods of Zhaoyi troop are particular, so the troop is picked infantry and powerful indeed. Zhaoyi's unique ethics and cultural factors. It has deep Han tradition, at the same time, it is at the margin of Hu. It is in a subtle position among the conflicts of Hu and Han. Such special ethics and cultural factors have had grave influence on the history of this period.Through the discussion of the four parts and analysis of Zhaoyi, we can understand that during the Tang Dynasty Dynasty and Five Dynasties, a province's status, its political tendency, its attitude toward central regime, and its influence on the history has close connection with its geographical environment, the state of its military forces, its ethics and culture.
