| News photography has already taken a place of today's mass media structure. Especially with the coming of era "reading images", news photography is playing a more and more important role in news reports and has a more and more influence upon readers and society. As a real medium, news photography has connected people with the world effectively and made them integrated. However, reflecting news photography, there are such many problems to be clarified as: What is news photography? And as a news reporting method, how it acts on society? How should we get to know this? And so on. Such problems as above in journalism theory studies have not been better solved. And our realizations about news photography therefore are limited within its reporting practice. After entering the information society, we are facing a new-fresh, multi-dimension and complex communication field, within which the competition among mass media becomes intense more and more and news photography confronts unprecedented opportunities and challenges. How to enhance news photography's competitive power becomes a sharp problem. Meanwhile, mass media studies about television and newspaper have entered the period of cultural studies and expanded into all society fields, but the studies about news photography still stay within journalism theory frame and have no ability in resolving effectively more and more problems of realities. So it is essential to reflect the traditional news photography, and then to arrange its inherent contradictions, to describe the influence and function of news photography upon people and society. And as a result, many proper problems can be founded to help construct the higher news photography theory.Such a thinking way as deciphering and critics are used in this article. From the start point of concept and definition, the medium personality, reporting model of function, society constructed-ness behavior and its relations with readers and society are analyzed. It is found that the present definitions of news photography exist logical weakness andinsurable meaning, and its medium character of personality that we always emphasis on needs to be discussed. This article describes the text type, narrative mechanism, the way of currency and meaning translation of news photography text and then finds out the intension model hidden behind itself, and analyses how news photography is used and how it is entitled meanings and up to the height of society constructed-ness, runs out of journalism and communication theory frames. At the same time, the problems that news photography probably faces in the digital era.Being the method of deciphering used, to answer the above questions, this article, on one hand, provides the model or frame of deciphering, on the other hand, analyses and discusses deeply to draw some conclusions of my own. Besides this, this article also aims at some points or ways of analyses that can become apocalypses used to realize news photography better and to make most of its advantages better, which therefore is useful to both theory construction and reporting practice of news photography. |
