Research On The Thought Of "Antiforeign Civilly" In The Period Of The Movement Of Reform In Hunan

After the sino-Japanese war of 1894-1895, facing the invasion of the big powers, the men of insight in Hunan province began to wake up. They recognized the objective reality and gave strategies one after another. They advocated "not to contend with the foreign invaders overly but covertly". Essentially, this anti-imperialist strategy was the same as "Antiforeign civilly" proposed by Chentianhua at the end of the Qing dynasty . "Antiforeign civilly" was an important thought in the period of the Movement of Reform in Hunan from a new historical reserching angle, but also prepare for the studing of anti-imperialist thought in Hunan and even in China after the Movement of Reform. However, in the past the academic circles only studied it from politic or specific aspect, so this thesis tries to analyse it more deeply and systematically form the aspects as follow:The introduction, mainly defines what is "Antifore civilly", explain-s the basis of choosing the subject and writing train of thought.The first part analyses the situation of thought that Hunan people changed from blind opposition to everthing foreign to antiforeign civilly after the Sino-Japanese war, and lists three reasons of the changing.The second part gives the main content thoroughly of the thought of "Antiforeign civilly" during the period of Reform in Hunan, that is,expounds the main idea from four aspects: religion, diplomacy, economy and ideology.The third part evaluates the historic position of the thought of "Antiforeign civilly" during the period of the Movement of Reform in Hunan, and gets three conclusions: "Antiforeign civilly" is the guiding thought of the Movementof the Reform in Hunan, The thought of "Antiforeign civilly" has certain effects on the social trend of thought the ending of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, The thought of "Antiforeign civilly" during this period is the initial forming stage of the whole thought system of "Antiforeign civilly".The conclusion gives two points of complement based on the above. First, Hunan people still paid much attention to the function of arm during the period of the Movement of Reform, second, the thought of "Antiforeign civilly" had its own class and epoch limitations during that period. In the end, it points out the mordern significance of the thought of "Antiforeign civilly".
