Vocal music is closely related to human physiology and psychology. In accompaniment with the arrival of trans-disciplinary era, the horizontal ties between various disciplines are more and more highlighted to promote the development of one's own discipline. Therefore the psychology of vocal music, tightly knitted with vocal music is increasingly emphasized day by day. Many psychological elements, such as memory, thought, imagination and emotion are further analyzed and researched in the field of vocal music. Among numerous psychological element, imagination cannot only transform abstract into imagery but also help us perpetually comprehend and rationally grasp various complicated skills in vocal music. In view of its enormous effect in vocal music, this article analyses and researches the effect of imagination in the study of vocal music and in the process of singing, in three chapters from the perspective of psychology.Firstly, Imagination, which can be developed in the study of vocal music and singing, has its own ground for its development. That is abundant accumulation of idea. Idea can be classified into plentiful groups, but idea for vocal music depends on experience idea and emotion idea. No matter what kind it belongs to, in essence, it originates from reality. In this point, it can be said that idea in vocal music is deeply rooted in rich accumulation of life and abundant emotional experience.Secondly, in singing exercises, if the inner abstract feeling is simply adjusted according to physiology, the result is always unsatisfying. This chapter takes breathe and resonance exercise as an example. From the inner-and-outer feelings, which can be easily realized and touched by thestrength of imagination, we'll explore the truth, comprehend the inner correct state of singing, grasp the skills for singing and mould our splendid singing.Thirdly, the words of a song and the music of a song are an integral whole. For the clarity of presentation, several levels are listed in this chapter. Imagination can perceive the inclination oriented tension in the music of a song and stimulate the static emotion-rousing structure of the music. According to theory of Gestalt psychology this structure responds with the emotional diagram in our memory and then emotional experience comes into being, then this emotional experience merges with the emotion aroused by the idea system related to the words of a song. At last, we realize the transformation of the static emotion-rousing structure to the dynamic emotion-rousing structure by emotion-saturated voice. Consequently comes the vitality of a song.
