The novel "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone has been widely spread throughout the world since it was first published. Harry Potter has been a poster to teenagers across the globe. He is believed to own a round face, to wear nearsighted glasses, to ride an easy-flying broom, galloping across the vast plain, to twinkle both eyes showing wisdom. What an attractive and lovely boy he is!The novel series have been re-published time and time again since it came to China in 1999.And the film based on it won a high seat-taken rato as well. Why did it win so much popularity? What effect did the character "Harry Potter" have on the minds of Chinese youth?Excellent composition for children aren't as rare as we imagine. Pupil in Zheng Yuanjie's fairy tales, Sun Wukong in "the Journey to the West" has deep and long significance over generations. The effect of Harry Potter is merely a fashion? Or a transient figure? But as the writer investigates that Harry is still the most popular one among teenagers till present. As owing object thought ,the teenagers have natural ability of imitating actions and enjoying games ,since all kinds of mental characters and personal features are formed through the process. Game-playing has much effect on the psychological process as Spensor- the great psychologist once said. The fictitious games such as "dialogue between human and snake, duel between man and genie, fight between man and dragon meets the very needs of the young readers.A human's needs can be divided into 5 kinds, the communicative needs being the highest besides living and psychological ones. A great deal of affection between teachers and students, among school fellows, even the feelings between human and snake, human and owl conforms extremely to the needs of the children. As a shallow understanding and curiosity to the present society, their thought always appear bold and unlimited. Therefore they are rich in imaginations. As the biologist Darwin pointed out, "imagination is one of human's highest talents. Human being combines the images with thoughts and produces wonderful productsunconsciously."A broom can be changed into a magic wand, a mirror into a magic one, a group of colorful birds can be imagined as keys which are stretching wings. So without imagination, the image of Harry Potter will be insipid and unlovely. In a word, It is helpful to cultivate children's imaginative and creative power that imitates the actions .attends the games, communicate with friends and develops the imagination. This is as well the novel's artistic charm lies. From the angle of educational psychology the author tries to demonstrate how the image of Harry Potter affects our teenagers in the way of analyzing and investigating.Firstly the paper explains briefly the two roles Harry Potter has played. As a child, both naughty and clever, intelligent and brave, he is aroused wide sympathy, meanwhile, as a part of the society, born an orphan, struggling against unluckiness and fighting against wicked forces, he won a large popularity and praises among readers.Secondly, the paper analyzed the characters and spirits Harry Potter owns from the angle of psychology: ability of magic and character of bravery o His magic power comes not only from heredity but from acquired efforts. His dialogue with snakes, fighting against evils illustrates his power so deeply. His character of bravery originates from his great ambition" revenging for parents "and "driving evils away".Finally, in the view of educational psychology the author demonstrates how Harry Potter affects the Chinese teenagers featuring the way of investigation. The novel impresses the readers so much in imitating, anticipating games, needs of communications, creation of imagination, cultivation of creative power and so on.However, the over-exaggeration of Harry Potter magic power and too much description of the fictitious world suggest the readers that they would indulge in fantasy and try to divorce from reality.
