| I hereby present my deepest gratitude to many people whose intellectual help as well as personal care have made this thesis possible. First and foremost, I feel enormously indebted to the supervisor of this thesis, Professor Li Shaoshan, who has helped me accomplish the most important academic work so far in my life. Despite hectic schedules, he always showed great patience in listening to my sketchy ideas and then gave many substantial and invaluable comments. I never felt lost after each meeting with him.
