The Rich elegiac addresses of Dunhuang relics, ranging from Tang dynasty and Five dynasty to the early yeas of Song dynasty, have provided us with documents on history and folk custom, presenting the convention and fashion in medieval Dunhuang . Inaddition, some writing genres seldom recorded in traditional documents also have been found out in elegies, which revels the miscellaneous low class funeral orations at that time. Undeniably, the study on those,materials attaches much importance to history, religion, culture, and folk custom in medieval China.Researching upon the general characters of Dunhuang elegies with careful classification and collection, this thesis is categorized into four parts as regards to the object of sacrifice: the elegy to gods, the elegy to sages, the elegy to ancestors and the elegy to domestic animals. Besides, the literary document value and cultural impact hereinabove have been greatly discussed, displaying the essential aspect of folk culture in medieval Dunhuang. |
