A lot of criteria or principles have been proposed in translating poetry. The traditional methods of poetry translation are used as reference and another triad method of poetry translation is being introduced here.1.translation of word: Translating the literal meaning of words in a poem. When the source meanings are easy to understand and expressions are nearly the same in the target language, translation of word is available and accessible.2.translation of sense: Translating the implied meaning between the lines. Translation of sense is necessary when the source meanings are complex and implicit or when rhetorical words are used.3.translation of spirit: Translating the unique flavor and natural emotional flow of the poet through the whole poem by composing words in special ways. Different authors in different time may have different skills to represent their personality and emotion in their poems. As spirit can be felt rather than be understood, translation of spirit generates an integrated version of meanings, tone, style proximate to those of the original poem and the translated poem can arouse similar feeling of the author's personality and emotion. It concentrates on an overall impact.Based on the former two, translation of spirit highlights on a comprehensive skill of wording which requires the translator super quality of writing in both languages to represent the inspiration and emotion of the poets in a natural way. | Keywords/Search Tags: | poetry translation, word, sense, spirit, possibility and process of translating spirit | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
