| Modern Chinese and Sinhalese belongs to different language families.The basic structure is different between the two languages.Chinese language is lack of changes of morphology.In addition,the tense and aspect of two languages are different.This thesis compares the expression of tense and aspect of these two languages in usage,concluding the common ground and revealing the difference.The context mainly covers three points:1.Tense system of Sinhalese:The tense of Sinhalese is shown by the suffix of predicator.lt can be divided into three kinds;present tense,past tense and future tense .The aspect of Sinhalese is expressed by function verbs.2.The way of Chinese tense and aspect expression:The tense of Chinese can be divided into present tense,past tense and future tense.Mainly expressed by using noun and adverb.The aspect of Chinese is divided into five kinds;begining aspect, progressive aspect, pressistent aspect, perfect aspect and experience aspect. They characterize some auxiliary words and adverb. The thesis also analysed of the tense and aspect of Chinese.3.Comparing expression of tense in Chinese to Sinhalese :there are changes in person, number, gender in Sinhalese. The surfix of predicate shows these changes. This is the complection of Sinhalese.Chinese express its aspect through using different auxiliary words or adverb.The expression of tense and aspect are fixed in Sinhalese.However on some situations Chinese specific language context is also very important to understand. But its not necessary in Sinhalese, because there are obvious form signs in Sinhalese. In comparing Chinese language with Sinhalese, Sinhalese is more simplified. |
