This thesis holds a distinctive idea as following: the original mentality of the natural beauty of hibiscus rising out of water which praised highly beginning from the Six Dynasties and flourishing in Tang and Song Dynasty, can trace back to the thinking of "White Bi"in divinatory symbols of Bi in Book of Changes. Such idea is based on the analysis of "Bi" and "White Bi", combining the study of two main ideal in ancient Chinese esthetic history, which one is gorgeous beauty of "inlaying gold", another is natural beauty of hibiscus rising out of water.Chapter one : the divinatory symbols of Bi in Book of Changes described a vivid picture of remote antiquity wedding. Controlled by the dialectical thinking of the Book of Changes, the Bi representing decoration and the White Bi representing a simple but elegant beauty was required to be supplemented each other in the thinking of adorning custom in ancient wedding. It is a primitive understanding of "form and content ".Chapter two: During the pre-Qin days, many philosophers promoted their respective measures in the light of the division of "form and content" caused by the smash of the code of etiquette. The scared status of the "form" endowed by the code of etiquette fell down gradually, for the reason of non-substantive significance. To the WeiJin Dynasty, the Taoism thoughts got to spread due to the main group of Metaphysics take a position of mediating Confucianism and Taoism. The beauty of purity and simplicity of Taoism was drawn into the explanation of "White Bi", and make the "White Bi" having the esthetic connotation of returning to the purity and simplicity. Therefore, the concept of "form and content" was expanded.Chapter three: from the Six Dynasties, the natural beauty of hibiscus rising out of water was regarded as a superior realm than the gorgeous of "inlaying gold". The transformation of esthetic interest had profound influence upon Tang and Song Dynasty, even later dynasties. The beauty of rising out of water is actually a thinking of "White Bi". Through explanation of later ages, it's directed to a trend of pursuing a mood of natural color in the creation of literature and arts ,and in the esthetic interest, which requires the expression to be nature and true in form content and emotion under the thinking of "White Bi".
