In the 20 century , with the development of science and society, people have a better understanding of being healthy. In 1948, the World Health Organization defined health as, " not being physically disabled or ill, with sound body, complete mentality and the ability in appliance to society". Being healthy does not only refer to being physically healthy. Mental health plays a more and more significant role. Investigations show that the mental health conditions of middle school students are worrying.This thesis is a comparative research on mental health situation of the junior school students of the Uygur and Han nationalities from different cultural background. The author used the internationally popularized symptom check list90 (scl-90) and the self-made twenty-four classes and 978 students from junior one to three in middle school were chosen question paper on mental problems as research tools from four minority middle schools in the City of Urunqi and Turpan and 4 middle schools for the Han people as study subjects. Research has shown that 18.2% of the students being studied have significant mental problems, and 10.53% suffer from serious mental problems. The difference of students' mental health situation is obvious according to their nationality, dwelling place, sex, difference sex of the same nationality, same sex of different nationality, grades, languages used in teaching. There are various reasons for the differences. The main factors are: social factors(political and cultural factors, including value of nationality, religion, language and negative social factors), schooling, family, region and personal factors. The author finally brings out some countermeasures and suggestions appropriate for mental health education in minority areas in Xinjiang, hoping they can be a force in putting forward the development of mental health education in the region. |
