With the development of new technology, growth in the world's population, and shifts in the global economic arena, international contacts have become more and more significant and frequent. This makes possible and necessary the new interdisciplinary subject: intercultural communication. Researches in this new field reveal that foreign language learning is also a process of intercultural communication, and suet sful intercultural communication includes not only linguistic competence, whiu. : conventionally taken as of capital importance in communicating with the target language-speaking people, but also intercultural communication competence, which comprises language competence, cognitive competence, affective competence, operational competence, episodic competence, relational competence, and strategic competence.Since China started to put into effect the policy of reforming and opening up to the outside world, it is generally accepted that the ability to communicate with people from different cultures appropriately as well as correctly is crucial. China's foreign language teaching (FLT for short) is responsible for fostering intercultural communicators who undertake the obligation of linking the world to China and at the same time introducing China to the outside world. China's FLT has come to be aware of the importance of intercultural communicative competence and is striving to improve it. Through years' teaching and observation and research, however, the author of this paper has found out that the current mode of intercultural communication in FLT is still problematic. Thisseems to suggest that FLT teachers' conscientious and vigorous work is largely wasted. Then what causes the low efficiency and high time consumption of China's FLT? With this question in my mind, I started thfs dissertation, which is a tentative process to propose a ne\\ mode of intercultural communication for China's FLT.Beginning with an ontological study upon the cunciit mode ol intercultural communication for China's FLT shows that it is problematic in its nature and its means for promoting FL learners' intercultural communication competence. The current mode of intercultural communication for China's FLT derives from the monism, which shapes a unilateral mode for intercultural communication for China's FLT. i.e. learners are cultivated to engage themselves in intercultural communication with the target culture as their sole cultural background. But FL learners fostered with the current mode of intercultural communication may deviate from their own native culture and attach themselves totally to the target culture. On the other hand, the FL learners can never be cultural members of the target culture, for no matter how well they can play their roles, there is still a world of difference between them and their counterpart(s) from the target culture. The means of the current intercultural communication in China's FIT. i.e., social presentation, psychological enhancement and pedagogical operation, are not beyond reproach, either. After an ontological study of the current mode of intercultural communication for China's FLT, we turn to the macroenvironment, which is an urgent warning for China's FLT to modify its current mode of intercultural communication. A powerful process, i.e., the globalization, features the current world. Then we cannot help asking "what does the globalization process mean to China and China's FLT?" Globalization is firstly economic unification with market economy as the \\eapon. Market economy is a system by which the economically powerful take a wild ride and thus become more powerful and the weak are treaded and thus lag far behind in the long-lasting process of pursuing prosperity, for market economy is a system based on wolfs game rules. In this sense, to developing countries, globalization brings them not only technological convenience, but also exploitation. It is the process to accept a relationship of exploiter and exploitee. The current mode of intercultural communication in China's FLT. by its overe...
