This thesis makes a more complete study on the novel theory of stream of consciousness of Woolf and her practical writing from a theoretical aspect. It focuses on exploiting the theoretical result that was made by her theoretical creation and conception in writing. In the first part of the thesis, Woolf s viewpoints such as subjective factuality, non-personify and poetic novel are refined through studying Woolf s modern novel theory. It is proved that Woolf was the one who made the novel of stream of consciousness be ripe and systematic. It is found that Woolf affirmed the factors of modernism in the tradional novel while criticizing the stale mode and plot of the traditional novel through rediscovering and interrupting the writing of the novelist in the past. Thus she made a smooth rode for the new style of writing. In the second past, through studying Woolf s in heritage and creation to the traditional novel in her theory and her writing, the relation between Woolf s novels and traditional novels is researched. Through studying Woolfs living circumstance, the contribution she made to the literature of modernism is also fully affirmed. In the third part, through watching and researching the artistic form of Wolf s novel, it is found that Woolf rewatched the world in a poetic way, researched the affairs of world and the life of human being and formed a poetic philosophic idea. With studying Woolfs philosophic idea in her theory and writing, our understanding to her can be deepened. At the end of the thesis, a summary is given about the contribution that Woolf made in the novel theory.
