Multiculturalism is one of the important problems in American society. With the great changes of international politics structure such as the disorganization of Soviet Union, the upheaval of East Europe, and the end of the Cold War. In American, the multiculturalism force comes to grow up and challenge to the American dominative culture. So there is a drastic debate at the point of the cross-century in the American society.Because of the growth of the multiculturalism result in great impact on the American society culture, and the scale and field of the impact are very wide, especially the multiculturalism challenge to the American dominative culture and liberal democracy. Basing on these realities, this paper try to study the formation of American multiculturalism form the political and historical angles through the theoretical and realistic analysis, in addition this paper discuss the interaction between the multiculturalism and the liberal democracy.This paper consists of four parts.In the first part, the author analyzes the idea of the multiculturalism. This part discusses the character, classification and purpose to reveal the realistic content and the political meanings the multiculturalism contains.The second part explains the formation of multiculturalism through the developing procession, theoretical origin and realistic factors of the multiculturalism.In the third part, the author studies the interaction between the multiculturalism and the liberal democracy. This part answer two question: one is what is the liberal democracy another is what relation between the multiculturalism and the liberal democracy. By analyzing the positive influence and the limitation of the multiculturalism to American society, we reach a conclusion that the contemporary multiculturalism itself is also facing great challenge. It is necessary to prompt politic identification, pay attention to the puniness groups for the buildup ofAmerican adscript feeling.
