| This paper attempts to analyze the distribution and use of vague expressions in Nautical English in comparison with the other five corpora, namely, BROWNA, LOBA representing Press Reportage English, MEE representing Marine Engineering English, MTE representing Legal English, and T4 representing Technical English. Chi-square tests and z-tests are utilized to see if the differences in the distributions of vague expressions in each corpus are significant. After a series of tests, it is found that NEC is a register of English with a stylistic feature between News Report English and English for Science and Technology in terms of vague expression employment. |
